In , the Central Bank of the Philippines (CBP) issued its first official “transitory provisional” banknotes with overprint of the words “CENTRAL BANK OF THE PHILIPPINES" on the reverse of "Victory Series No. 66 Treasury Certificate”. Two years after, CBP issued its second issue but first printed official banknote series, this being not a “transitory provisional” and not just overprinted called English Series, consisting of 13 denomination 5 centavos, 10 centavos, 20 centavos, 50 centavos, 1 peso, 2 pesos, 5 pesos, 10 pesos, 20 pesos, 50 pesos, 100 pesos, 200 pesos and 500 pesos. The 1 peso to 500 pesos bears portraits of Filipino heroes on the obverse, vignettes in Philippine history on the reverse, and worded in English language.

In , a larger sized 50 centavos also known as half peso were printed, this year is also the last printing of all fractional denomination. After , the 200 pesos and 500 pesos were considered demonetized pursuant to Republic Act No. 1191 and 1516

The 5 pesos, 10 pesos and 20 pesos were printed until during the term of President Ferdinand E. Marcos and CBP Governor Gregorio S. Licaros. A total of 2,700,885,000 notes with a value of ₱ 6,865,157,500 were issued for this series.
