PROCLAMATION NO. 16
ANNOUNCING THE CIRCULATION OF MILITARY NOTES OF THE
DENOMINATION OF
ONE HUNDRED PESOS BEGINNING MAY 1, 1944.
WHEREAS, for the purpose of facilitating financial
transactions it has become necessary to place in circulation
Military notes
of 100-peso denomination;
WHEREAS, the Highest Commander of the Imperial Japanese
Army in the Philippines has informed the Republic of the Philippines that
these
100-peso Military notes will be of the same character and are placed
in circulation under the same conditions as the Military notes authorized
under the Military Proclamation of January 3, 1942;
NOW, THEREFORE. I, Jose P. Laurel, President of the
Republic of the Philippines, hereby announce that
100-peso Military notes
will be in circulation beginning this day and request the people of the
Republic of the Philippines to accept such notes in the same manner as the
military notes issued under the Military Proclamation of January 3, 1942,
now in circulation as legal tender in the Philippines.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and
caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
Done in the City of Manila, this 1st day of May, in the
year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and forty-four, and of the Republic of
the Philippines, the first.
